Constructed in 1921, this two-story masonry building stands as the City of Seattle’s longest-operating fire station. The design objectives aimed at improving seismic and environmental safety while safeguarding the historical significance of this 36,800 square-foot landmark. To prolong the facility’s lifespan, various building systems were replaced. Energy-saving measures were implemented through efficient lighting, daylighting strategies, automatic light controls, and the incorporation of a high-performance variable refrigerant flow system.
